BUDGET & SPENDING:
Former-Secretary Castro has criticized even the most minor spending cuts and has not disavowed a single spending item during the campaign.
Castro has proposed oversight of domestic surveillance, but has offered little other public comment.
Castro has proposed increased wealth taxes, a brand new death tax, and more taxes on investment and capital gains to fund his social programs.
Castro proposed a plan that would regulate almost all family farms on the way they treat their livestock. He has also shown an unwillingness to talk about the cost of subsidies.
Castro has offered very few foreign policy proposals, but criticized President Trump for his plan to withdraw from Syria. He has criticized the Iraq War, however.
Castro has strongly supported trade deals in the past, but emphasizes the need for some protectionism and also demands environmental regulations be a part of them going forward.
Castro has endorsed Medicare for All as a candidate. He also wants the government to regulate health lifestyles to keep the cost of his enormously expensive plan down.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM:
Castro has one of the more detailed criminal justice plans of the field, however it zeroes in on policing reform. He has, however, offered support for the First Step Act, and encouraged further reform.
WELFARE & ENTITLEMENTS:
As Obama’s HUD Secretary, Castro supported and implemented a program to give connected devices to all those in federal housing, a massive and unconstitutional undertaking.
TECH & TELECOMMUNICATIONS:
Castro has offered very little publicly on tech policy, but what he has has been in support of President Obama’s Title II regulations.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:
Castro’s plan would cost $10 trillion over the next ten years. He wants to achieve full carbon neutrality and fund nationwide electric vehicle charging stations.
Castro’s education plan would cost $1.3 trillion. It would implement universal pre-K and eliminate tuition at public schools.
Castro has proposed to decriminalize border crossings, eliminate the ban on illegal re-entry, and abolish ICE. This is the epitome of open borders policy.
